[Construction Case] Miyagi Prefecture Onagawa Fishing Port Miyagasaki Wharf Disaster Recovery Work

"The surface drainage is becoming a puddle due to the unevenness" "It is hindering the operation of the forklift" Solved by the Upcon method.

This is a construction case study of the unloading quay at Onagawa Fishing Port and Fish Market in Miyagi Prefecture. The structure allowed for the continuous surface drainage of used water and seawater from the unloading area towards the quay. However, due to ground subsidence, a step was created in the concrete pavement, causing surface drainage to form puddles, which hindered the loading and unloading of cargo and the movement of forklifts. The Upcon method was adopted because it allowed for the correction of the step without breaking the concrete pavement and within a short construction period. 【Site Information】 Disaster Recovery Work at Miyagasaki Quay, Onagawa Fishing Port Construction Area: 338 square meters Maximum Subsidence: 32mm Construction Period: 5 days For more details on the construction process, you can view the PDF download below.

[Construction Example] Miyagi Prefecture Port Facility Quay Disaster Recovery Work

Harbor facility quay disaster recovery work

In 2021, the earthquake off the coast of Fukushima caused multiple ground fissures in the loading area and storage yard of the Hibari district in Ishinomaki and Shiogama ports. Traditionally, repairs for similar ground fissures involved open excavation down to the deepest part of the fissure, followed by repeated compaction to create a subgrade. However, this time there were several challenges, leading to the decision to explore methods that could fill the fissures without excavation and within a short construction period. Among these, the Upcon method was adopted as the most effective technique. 【Site Information】 Total construction length: 503 m Maximum depth of fissure: 2,400 mm Construction period: 5 days For detailed explanations and observations of the construction, please refer to the PDF download below.

[Construction Example] Akita Prefecture Port Facility (RTG Running Path) Repair Work Settlement Correction

Port facility quay disaster recovery work

The Upcon method, which allows for modifications without breaking existing concrete pavement slabs and within a short construction period, has been widely adopted in public works such as roads and airports as a maintenance repair method. This time, we will introduce a case of subsidence correction work for the RTG (rubber-tired gantry crane) running path slab at a container terminal within a port. Over time, the RTG running path slab had subsided, causing a step to form in the adjacent vehicle running path. Additionally, unevenness occurred in the longitudinal direction, which affected the operation of the RTG and snow removal work. Compared to other methods, the Upcon method was chosen because it allows for construction without breaking the RTG running path slab and without halting operations during the short construction period. 【Site Information】 Construction Area: 258 square meters Maximum Correction Amount: 57 mm Construction Period: 6 days (nighttime) For detailed explanations and visuals of the construction, please refer to the PDF download below.

Concrete Column Urethane Reinforcement Method "Gankyō Column"

Inject rigid polyurethane resin into existing concrete columns for reinforcement with a short construction period. Prevent the collapse of concrete columns during natural disasters.

Natural disasters such as earthquakes and typhoons have caused utility poles to fall, obstructing emergency vehicles and delaying recovery efforts, which has become a social issue. In recent years, accidents have also occurred where strong winds have caused utility poles to fall, leading to traffic disruptions and damage to buildings and homes. Upcon has developed a concrete pole reinforcement method called "Sturdy Pole," which increases the destructive load capacity of existing concrete poles to prevent collapse. The "Sturdy Pole" method involves injecting high-strength foam polyurethane resin, specifically developed for reinforcement, into the hollow section of existing concrete poles, achieving a short construction period and ease of installation. This method increases the strength of existing concrete poles without the need for replacement. Since there is no need for removal, it helps reduce construction time and costs while also contributing to the resilience of the national infrastructure. 【Features】 1. Short construction period Special polyurethane resin is injected, quickly filling the cavity with foaming and expansion pressure. 2. Easy installation Only drilling and injection into the existing concrete poles are required, allowing for installation by a small team. 3. Suitable for narrow spaces Reinforcement in narrow areas or along major roads where replacing existing concrete poles is difficult can be easily accomplished. ■ More details can also be viewed in the PDF data.

Quickly correct the factory floor's slope and the gaps under the floor with rigid polyurethane foam resin!

Correct the floor tilt caused by earthquakes or ground subsidence without stopping operations and in a short time! No need to move machines or equipment! Also suppress any concerning vibrations from the machines!

■ The level of the machine cannot be secured. ■ The machine is tilted and vibrating. ■ Malfunctions are occurring in the machine, leading to an increase in defective products. ■ Gaps have formed in the floor, walls, and ceiling. ■ Cracks have appeared in the floor. The "Upcon Method" uses polyurethane resin to quickly correct issues caused by tilting or sagging of the floor, as well as voids or gaps that have formed beneath the floor due to earthquakes or ground subsidence. 【What is the Upcon Method?】 Small holes with a diameter of 16mm are drilled into the existing concrete floor where subsidence has occurred. While continuously monitoring the level in millimeter increments, polyurethane resin is injected. The resin injected beneath the floor expands under pressure in a short time, compacting and reinforcing the ground, improving bearing capacity, and pushing the concrete back to a level position. The final strength of the resin is achieved in about 60 minutes. Additionally, if voids have formed beneath the floor, they are filled using the same method. By correcting the existing concrete floor without demolition, the construction period is significantly reduced compared to conventional methods. The polyurethane can lift the floor with a foaming pressure of up to 10 tons per square meter, eliminating the need to move heavy equipment or loads. The deformation of the floor is corrected without stopping the production line.

[Construction Case] Fukushima Prefecture, Soma Port Port Maintenance Management Work (Quay Restoration)

Due to ground subsidence at the harbor's quay, there are steps and depressions in the concrete pavement, resulting in the loss of water gradient and the formation of puddles. This issue is resolved using the Upcon method.

The Upcon method, which allows for modifications without breaking existing concrete pavement slabs and within a short construction period, has been widely adopted in public works such as roads and airports as a maintenance and repair method. This time, we will introduce a construction site for correcting the sinking of concrete pavement slabs and filling voids at a quay in a port. The quay at Soma Port in Fukushima Prefecture, where cargo loading and unloading occurs frequently, has experienced issues due to ground subsidence, resulting in steps and sinking in the concrete pavement slabs, eliminating the water slope and causing puddles. This has hindered cargo operations. The Upcon method was chosen because it has no environmental impact compared to other methods and can correct the existing slabs without removal in a short period. [Site Information] Soma Port Port Maintenance Management Work (Quay Restoration) Construction Area: Approximately 285 square meters Maximum Subsidence: 97mm Construction Period: 4 days For detailed information on the construction process, please refer to the PDF download below.
